I was sitting here thinking about what happens when we depart from this life here in the physical and the process. Now one couldn’t ever really know the exact nature of it until it’s our time of course, but based on different experiences I’ve had in my life with OBEs and knowing some things about the nature of the Cosmos in general, there are some things I do and do not believe about it. For starters, I do believe in eternal life. I do not however, believe in a heaven or hell, at least not in any religious sense. I do believe in a judgement. You hear stories of people who have had NDEs and they refer to the saying “I saw my life flash between my eyes”. I believe this to be the judgement. Unpopular opinion but, I do not really believe in the concept of reincarnation. At least not physically.
At the time of death, you face yourself. You watch a record of your entire life and reflect on your mishaps, your failures, your regrets, and where you’ve wronged others. I then think you’ll have to chastise and work out those things with yourself and forgive yourself based on your own personal moral system. All of this is timeless mind you, as time as we know it no longer exist within this space. Once you have worked those things out however, you can continue on with the eternal evolution of your soul.
Now I know that many who are into spirituality believe in reincarnation, but this is why I don’t. From a Left-Hand Path standpoint, it’s believed that our current personalities here in the physical right now, our Egos, do continue to live on after the flesh perishes. From a Hermetic standpoint this also makes sense. The Universe is Mental and All is Mind. As I’ve written before in my article The Difference Between Spirit & Soul, the Soul and the Mind are synonymous. In a way, we’re all simply thoughts localized in a physical body. Once the body decays, you’ll still exist within the thoughts of all of those who remember you.
Take Bob Marley for example. He passed on back in the 70’s but you would still think he’s among us physically today with how relevant he remains and his music still playing everywhere reggae is played. He continues to live within the minds of millions of people who love his music and message, and lives within the hearts and very DNA of the many sons and daughters he had! When you depart from the physical body, it allows you to exist in many different forms and planes all at once. You’re no longer localized to a set coordinate in time and space….but you’re still you, and that’s important, and why I don’t really believe in and question reincarnation.
If I reincarnate as someone else…well, am I even Anthony at all anymore? Or that someone else? And why would we assume that you would reincarnate in a later time than your current life? Why not in the past? Why not exactly right now? Based on what we do know about the Cosmos, and how again time as we know it only exist on this one plane of Space-time, if physical reincarnation were true, I could die tonight and then reincarnate as one of you who are reading this post right now. So am I you, or am I me?
Those who believe in dissolving the Ego might work this out in their minds easily by shrugging it off and saying that our Egos aren’t our True Selves and that it doesn’t matter if we are no longer our current personalities when we depart this life. I just personally beg to differ. I think spiritualist would understand where I’m coming from too. When you’re doing work with your ancestors, if they’re supposedly reincarnated as someone else that may not even be in your bloodline, how would you really explain that you are actually working with them if they’re walking around somewhere physically again? For this reason, spiritualist believe in a spirit world, or perhaps the Dream-time where our ancestors continue to evolve beyond the physical. In this way here, we’re able to reach out to them and they assist us in our lives. I say based on my experiences, I’d have to be in agreement with that.
I think if you could think of yourself not as something physical but rather a signal, a radio signal, yet still a distinct and unique one that’s different from other radio signals, you could get a visual of what it is I’m trying to convey to you. That “signal” can be received by many different “radios” i.e. minds, but it’s still “you”.
