There is nothing dark, evil, or spooky about the occult. The word itself just means “hidden”, for a lot of occult knowledge was only given to or understood by a select few people. Those same individuals would go on to become astrophysicists, chemist, and doctors. Modern day science came from the occult.
Think about it, there was a point in history where if you said the Earth was round and revolved around the Sun, you were burned at the stake by the Church! But there were people who always knew the truth; in that time the heliocentric model was considered occult knowledge where today we understand it as common knowledge.
