Those who always talk about starving the ego or referring to the ego as a negative thing probably have the greatest egos that are out of control. Me? I’m a bit more honest in my opinion. I acknowledge I have an ego, and I have no desire to try to kill it. It serves me.
Your ego, “lower self”, nafs, demons, etc are all apart of who you are. I really don’t get this New Age idea of trying to eliminate or deny those parts of Self. The only time they are negative is when they aren’t put into check.
The Master Solomon didn’t seek to kill his demons, he gained control over them and then they were used to serve him in building his Great Temple. Every part of Self, even your “negative” aspects can be used to serve you at one point or another.
